Fayette County
Public Schools
Under the direction of Superintendent Myles
Wilson, The Fayette County School System offers an education that is
both intellectual and practical.
Fayette County offers several elementary schools, located throughout the
area, which provide opportunities such as the High Achievers Program and
athletics.
After completing the fourth grade, students
attend either West Jr High or East Jr High. West is
located in Oakland and East in Somerville. Both schools accommodate
students in grades 5-8.
Students enter Fayette-Ware High School in grade 9.
Fayette-Ware is located north of Somerville. One of the unique
features of Fayette-Ware is its vocational department, which offers training
in such areas as auto repair, electronics, health occupations and office
technology. Fayette-Ware also offers dual credit courses and distance
learning classes.
All Fayette county Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools.
Two junior high schools serve grades 5-8. One school is located just
north of Somerville near Fayette-Ware High School. The other school is
located in Oakland south of Highway 64. The east school (Somerville)
will serve students who live in the central, Jefferson, LaGrange-Moscow and
Somerville elementary school districts. West Junior High School
(Oakland) will serve students who live in the Oakland, Southwest and
Northwest elementary school districts. When the junior high program
goes into effect, students will continue through ninth grade at junior high
and enter Fayette-Ware in tenth grade.
